While this is not a 5 star hotel, it does have many redeeming features, namely it has one of the biggest hotel swimming pools I have seen in HK/China. Also, there is an MCL movie cinema a 5 minute walk away. There is a YATA department store, 5 minute walk away. There are a lot of affordable restaurants nearby, walking distance less than 15 minutes (eg what other hotel can boast a short walk to THREE separate/different McDonalds? It also is a short walk to KFC, Pizza Hut any many more in New Town Plaza). There are even 2 major supermarkets such as Parkn Fusion nearby. There are also many good Japanese and other Asian restaurants throughout New Town Plaza. (However, we did not like the Tian Tian place as it was overpriced and chicken rice nothing special) We also did NOT Like the buffet lunch/dinner downstairs. If you really want to try, do the lunch as the dinner is very similar and lunch is way cheaper. My kids loved getting a tea from Comebuytea every night as it is way better than what we can get in Australia. It is a short walk to the Shatin MTR station and we went up to China for shopping and foot massages in Lok Ma Chau in Shenzhen. In fact, it is so convenient to go to China from the hotel. I even took my kids to Happy Valley in Shenzhen for a whole day and made it back across the border before it closed for the night! Happy Valley is way better than Disneyland imo. The East rail line from Shatin also takes you to Admiralty where you can change to any other stop in HK island. I never had to wait more than 5 minutes for a taxi from the hotel and there are many taxi stands around New Town Plaza. The cleaning lady was super friendly as was the helpful concierge staff who introduced me to the joys of Gogovan as we had tonnes of luggage including several 40 inch suitcases from Ladies St in Mong Kok. Only Gogovan could take all our luggage.

This hotel is expensive, but you know that already! I got a room overlooking the river and the view was truly stunning. The room itself is huge, with a king sized bed. The bed itself was firm, as were the pillows, and I found sleeping to be very comfortable. The room was also very quiet - I could barely hear anyone or anything. The was cleaned to perfection every day. There's a large TV in the room, but to be honest I've never bothered to watch TV wherever I go. Why would I waste time watching TV when I could be sightseeing! There's a fridge for personal use, which is perfect for your milk if you like milk in your tea/coffee. The supplied kettle seems pretty fast boiling. There's a notice to advice travellers that they should only drink water from the water dispensers which are on every floor. The wardrobe has a small safe, which is free to use. Also in the wardrobe is a little set of drawers to put your clothes. The design and decor is minimalist and elegant. There are lots of light switches, which lets you control the main light, the hall light, the bathroom light, the tea point light, the lamps for either side of the bed, an under-bed light for night time use, and a desk light. Amazing choices to be honest! Also in the room is a 2/3 seater sofa, which suits the aesthetics of the room. There's the obligatory desk and chair, which are both comfortable to use. The outlets near the desk are useful - two AC outlets, a USB-A and a USB-C port, and even an ethernet port! Near the door are more light switches (although fewer than by the bed), but also two useful switches - one for "do not disturb" and the other for "please clean my room".

The room is comfortable. We asked for a quiet room and we got a room next to the park and river. The pool is lovely and clean. The location is great if you don’t want to stay in the central of Hong Kong. It is right next to shopping malls, restaurants, trains and bus stations. Free playgrounds and payable softplay next to the hotel if you have young kids. Good bicycle paths along the river. The staffs are friendly and helpful. We went for a bicycle ride and my young daughter had an accident. The hotel manager took us to the clinic so the nurse can cleaned her wound and checked by the GP. He even followed up and checked if everything is ok with my daughter later in the evening. He kindly gave two soft toys to my kids. I appreciate the additional care I had from the hotel.

The hotel is well situated and connected with walking bridges to the New Town Plaza shopping center and indirectly to the Lucky plaza as well. When the weather is bad, you can walk fully covered from the hotel to the MTR station. The beds are comfortable, and the rooms are very spacious. When compared to similarly priced hotels in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island, the rooms feel like ballrooms. You are further away from the hustle and bustle of the city. However, we needed to be in Tai Po and the surrounding villages and this is one of the most conveniently located hotels for that area of Hong Kong.

Roel

Central location to almost anywhere in HK, with easy access to buses and MTR, also everything is downstairs with walking distance where all sorts of eateries, farmers markets and stores with various price range to accommodate everyone. Easy access to laundry and self laundry, The heated swimming pool is good as usual, partial indoor and outdoor with good changing facilities, even with other club members besides hotel guests, the pool is not busy.
